Warming up.

On monday, things will start to heat up here in the school as everyone in the first grade will begin with our own projects, and I’m certain everyone is just as psyched as I am!

And what is it I’ll be working on? You’ll see! One thing I can tell is that it will mostly be digital, as that is what I want to get better at.

And storytelling, mhm.

But before that, it’s always good with some warm-up exercise before the big race. And damn, do i like my new wacom or what. Guess it wasn’t that terrible that my former tablet died in a sea of coffee…

My trusted companion, he’s soon been everywhere in my works…

And a quick step by step figure painting.

Tip of the day: Go visit http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php, there are tons of really good photos for studying the human figure.

The Book of Unseen Beings.

A dummy for an encyclopedia presenting all kinds of different mythical beings. My work on this course of graphic design. Big heaps of fun working on this. Maybe I’ll take it further someday and make something out of it.

It took me four days to produce this dummy. From scratch.

Figure painting two & digital painting too!

Catchy titel! Or lame.

Anyhow! Another week of live figure painting is over and I have yet another attempt at catching the figure and colour for show. More focus was this time aimed at the different colour variations on the skin.

Rather than the environment.

Also I’ve been trying to brush up my digital painting skills lately. And yesterday I came up with a result I were quite pleased with, If I may say so myself! Funny, how I come up with a “deep meaning” of my painting the day after I’ve finished it. But that’s for my knowledge only, harr harr! You can find one to it yourself. Explore. In thoughts, and such.

Next thing I feel I should tackle is breaking out from portraits and do a full-body figure drawing/painting.

Live figure painting

This week we began with live figure painting. Exciting! I thought at first. But oh damn, it’s difficult. 4x 4 hour sessions with one model. To get a result I would have been happy with I would need at least a month or so.

Anyway, it’s good practice trying to catch the model quickly too. And the teachers who’s supervising us are really good and know their thing. I’m content with the result, but I’ll do better next week. Going to buy some ochre’ish paint and get the skin tones spot on.

Quite Fiery.

Oh! I’ve also experienced the wonderful medium of oil colours! Bought a starter kit in Ystad when I was there with a couple of friends. Cheap, but good. Some sort of portrait. I thought I’d go with a somewhat familiar subject, for practicing the oils, and it came to be a portrait. Now, I felt I wanted to do something extra with it, add something, and I’ve been doing a lot of dogs lately. Bright & happy pictures. I decided to include the dog part in the portrait, but to take a twist with the mood.

Sneak-peak

I’m back in school and the first week has been absolutely splendid. It felt great to meet all of my friends again and the painting course we’re on right now is also fantastic.

I’m gonna keep it short this time, a headache is crawling up onto me I sense. But here’s a tiny, mini, small sneak peak of my current work in progress.

Cheers!

Woof.

Love at first sight

When it comes to TV series, movies, games and such I’m rather picky I’ll admit. Often I’ll just take a quick glance at it and then decide whether or not to give it more of my attention. Mostly I choose not to. But for about a couple of weeks ago I thought I’d give Game of Thrones a chance. Everyone had been talking about it and many really praised it. Even those who regurlarly doesn’t prefer fantasy in the first place. So it had to be something special about it!

And then, I was one of them. It mesmerized me completely.

Now, apart from that I enjoy trying on new kind of mediums to draw & paint with. And for christmas I was given some markers and a fine-liner (Yaaay!), and what better way to try them out than with a little tribute? A tribute to the dwarf!

Reboot

Third time’s the charm!

I’m going to give this blogging-thingy another go, but this time around it shall be great! And actually interesting too! I hope.

Primarily I’ll load this place with things (that being drawings, paintings and other “artsy” stuff) I’ve been working on, as I am currently studying in an art school in Sweden called Österlenskolan för Konst och Design. Also, I will share parts of my thoughts on things, subjects and what-not I’ll come to think of. To get a better view of who this person behind the monitor is, which hopefully will add to the works of art I do. And the english is simply enough for the accessibility.

With that said I don’t have much more to add for now. The blog is what it is and will be what it becomes.

And do please leave comments If you feel to!

I won’t bite.

Enjoy!

What is this?

Briefly, a blog about me, Mathias Ragnarsson. An art student. And the works I do.
